KIDNEY AND HEART FRIENDLY SALT
According to WHO, a normal healthy diet can contain 1.5gm to 2.3gm of table salt in a day. Salt is the main source of iodine which is an important nutrient that helps in regulating and functioning of the thyroid gland and its hormone. It also helps regulate fluid balance in our bodies. As we all know the true flavour of any food is salt. When consumed in excess it causes problems with the basic metabolism of the body and affects vital organs of the body like the heart and kidneys. Thus, it is important to keep in check the quantity and quality of salt that you ingest every day and if you have comorbid conditions you can replace table salt with one of the following:
Sea salt
Sea salt is made from the evaporation technique used on seawater. It is an unrefined type of salt that has several other enriched minerals in them. Sea salt has an added health benefit to boost immunity and assist while recovering from infections like the common cold. It is also suggested that sea salt can aid in the process of weight loss.
Himalayan pink salt
Himalayan pink salt has a high nutritional value as it contains 84 various minerals. Pink salt possesses the ability to maintain the body’s PH in balance, control and maintain blood sugar levels, improve sleep. Recent studies suggest that this variety of salt can slow down the process again and improve quality of life.
Nutritional yeast
Nutritional yeast is otherwise called deactivated yeast which is a good replacement for a table sat. nutritional yeast is also a source of various vitamins and folic acid. It also has the capacity to enhance food flavour and is more commonly used by vegans to ain a cheese-like flavour in their food
Rock salt
Rock salt is commonly obtained from salt mines located underground thus it has all mineral deposits in them. Medically the regular intake of rock salt has been linked to control and management of blood pressure, improve digestive functions and boosts metabolism of the body. It is also used to drain blocked noses
Himalayan black salt
Himalayan black salt can be used as an alternative to table salt if one would prefer a tangy flavour in your food. It is also called Kala namak as it is commonly used in lemonades, fruit salads and street foods to enhance flavours. Himalayan black salt contains very low levels of sodium thus it is used to regulate and maintain blood pressure, improve eye vision and improve the functioning of digestion
